Experience

I have acquired over 20,000 client-hours of direct clinical experience. I have run depression-treatment psycho-education groups in Outpatient Psychiatry at Vancouver General Hospital. I was a university instructor for a decade, teaching thousands of graduate and undergraduate students in four different universities and academic departments of Communication Studies and Counselling Psychology. I have acted as a mentor for practicum and internship students beginning their careers as well as a teacher for professionals engaged in career development. I have been a consultant on Intergenerational and Intercultural communications. I have spoken at corporate events on the subjects of burnout, corporate divorce, family succession, major life transitions, high-stakes decision-making, and existential crises.

Clinical Focus

I specialize in working with a diverse range of clients, addressing issues such as anxiety, low mood, relationship challenges, and communication difficulties. My professional focus extends to helping individuals and couples navigate major life transitions, discover meaning and purpose, and prevent or recover from burnout.

Foundation

As a university instructor I taught all of the major theories of counselling psychology. As a practitioner I attempt to keep up on the literature and remain well-versed, however my professional focus applies cognitive behaviour therapy, attachment-based therapy, psychodynamic psychology, positive psychology, existential theory, family systems theory, and mindfulness.

Education

I hold a PhD from McGill University and additional degrees from Columbia University, City University, and the University of Toronto. I am committed to ongoing learning and have completed additional training and diploma programs to ensure the highest quality of care for my clients.

Certifications

I am a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and hold the designation of Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). Additionally, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

Approach

Clients describe my therapeutic approach as analytical, honest, direct, transparent, and compassionate. I believe in creating a safe and supportive space for you to explore your challenges, identify strengths, and work towards positive change.

Availability

I work with adult individuals, couples, and families, providing video- and/or telephone-based sessions. I also offer public speaking engagements and private group therapy and psychoeducation workshops for those interested in a more collective therapeutic experience.
